Tottenham Hotspur avoided any major losses before the European transfer deadline, but did receive some late interest in Lucas Moura, according to reports.
There were fears that contract rebels Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen would move on, but all stayed put, as did Victor Wanyama despite late interest in his signature.
However, Mundo Deportivo claim that Barcelona were interested in signing Lucas Moura, but backed away after learning the asking price was at least €50million (£45million).
Moura, 27, enjoyed a strong campaign last season, and really hit the headlines last season with a dramatic hat-trick against Ajax to send Spurs into the Champions League final.
The Brazilian was seemingly being eyed by Barcelona as an alternative target to Neymar, but the feeling was that the money wasn't great value – especially if Barca go for PSG's Neymar again anyway next year.
Barcelona fans have been taking to Twitter to react to the claims, with many wondering what on earth the club were thinking even going for Moura.
Some don't understand what the point of selling Malcom to then sign Moura would have been, and are grateful that Barca didn't end up paying Tottenham's asking price.
One fan even suggested a swap deal for Ivan Rakitic would have been ideal, seemingly hoping that Spurs would want to take the Croatian ace and use him in midfield with Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Winks.

Imagine the shock of the fans if Barcelona paid 50 mil for Lucas Moura right after the board sold Malcom.— Emm (@MercurialMessii) September 4, 2019
At least they rejected this one and didn’t contemplate it like they did with William last year— Gabriel (@guerilla_grapez) September 4, 2019
Did the right thing, why would Barca need another winged when got rid of a good winger Malcom and have Dembele, Perez in the squad..— Gary (@MessiLionel1O) September 4, 2019

Good Business. Nobody needs him here. He would not play the next season when neymar arrives. Bernadeschi would be the same. Some smart Business from Barça lately, i like that— ney (@penguinpinata) September 4, 2019
