West Ham United have reportedly suffered a major injury blow as further news concerning Michail Antonio emerges.
A number of West Ham fans have taken to Twitter to react to reports from the London Evening Standard which claimed that Michail Antonio is set to spend the next four months on the sidelines after sustaining a hamstring injury.
The 29-year-old was taken off after just eight minutes of the Hammers’ Carabao Cup tie with Newport County last month after pulling up just outside the penalty area.
It was immediately clear that Antonio was in some trouble and that the injury was going to be a serious one. But West Ham fans would have been hoping that Antonio would be fortunate and that the news would perhaps be more promising.
However, the London Evening Standard has reported that he is set to be out for around four months after undergoing surgery on his hamstring on Tuesday.
The news has left a lot of supporters disappointed and dejected. It is not the first time that Antonio has faced a lengthy spell on the sidelines as he has previously sustained a similar problem in his other leg.
And some fear that Antonio is facing an incredibly tough task getting back to his best upon his return. The agonising aspect for many is that the attacker had looked to be in fine form at the start of this season, and they are worried that he may not be the same player.
Here is how some of the supporters have reacted to the latest reports on Antonio…
Bad news about Antonio with it being 5 months now apparently.— R. JONES ☆ (@RockyWhu) September 4, 2019
Only positive is it gives Holland a chance now.
Feel bad for Antonio as he was looking great #Whufc
It’s a big, big loss this. hope he comes back the same player— Jay (@jshopson) September 4, 2019
Given his previous with hamstring injuries and the length of recovery time needed I fear we may have seen the last of Antonio at his best at premiership level. Real shame given the impact he has. Hope I’m wrong #COYI— Mark Hexton ⚒⚒ (@Hammerhexy) September 4, 2019
