Celtic snapped up Manchester City defender Jeremie Frimpong on deadline day.
According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic’s deal for Jeremie Frimpong cost just £350,000 initially, but may rise to £1million – and Manchester City have a 30% sell-on clause in the deal.
The Bhoys signed three full backs on deadline day, and whilst Greg Taylor was the headline signing, Celtic also landed two prospects for the future.
Lee O’Connor arrived from Manchester United, whilst Frimpong left their neighbours City to make the move to Parkhead too.
Frimpong, 18, is a relatively unknown player, though he did notch three goals and three assists for City’s development sides last season.
Celtic fans will be interested to see the Dutchman develop, and details are now emerging about his move, starting with the fee Celtic have actually paid.
It’s claimed that Celtic have paid just £350,000 up front for Frimpong, but various add-ons mean the deal could reach £1million – and City have put a huge 30% sell-on clause into the deal.
City seemingly feel that Frimpong has huge potential and could make them even more money down the line, once he’s established himself at Celtic and become a first-team player.
This seems like a fairly low-risk signing for Celtic, taking a calculated gamble on Frimpong’s potential, but City have made sure they’re involved in any future move.
