The Citizens defender has undergone surgery on his cartilage and lateral meniscus, with some Man City fans having previously feared an ACL injury.

A number of Manchester City fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the club's injury update regarding Aymeric Laporte.
The 25-year-old had to be carried off in the 4-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion after damaging his cartilage and lateral meniscus in a challenge with Seagulls defender Adam Webster.
Laporte travelled to Barcelona to see specialist Dr Ramon Cugat and, following tests, the defender underwent successful surgery on his knee, although Man City have not yet given an indication of how long he will be out.
Here is what some Citizens fans said on social media regarding the club's update on the Frenchman - who made 35 Premier League appearances last season (BBC Sport) - with a few seeking to speculate how long he could be out for:
Speedy recovery Aymeric

Wouldn't be surprised if he is back in training in 3-5 weeks time

Depends on the type of surgery mate. If just a trim surgery, anywhere from 4-8 weeks. If he required a repair or microfracture anywhere from 4-10 months

Laporte's injury has ruled him out of a possible debut for France after he had been called up by coach Didier Deschamps for the Euro 2020 qualifiers against Albania and Andorra.
His absence leaves Man City with just Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones as central defenders following the departure of Vincent Kompany at the end of last season.
