It looks like it’s time for Steven Universe to save Earth again.

Are you ready to see Steven Universe plunge headfirst into his greatest adventure yet?

Us too! Cartoon Network has delivered some of the all-time great animations over the years. You have shows like Ed, Edd n Eddy, Cow and Chicken, Dexter’s Laboratory and The Powerpuff Girls, all the way up to the likes of Adventure Time, Ben 10 and beyond.

Their programming is so great because they manage to turn out cartoons that both kids and adults alike can enjoy. Who said cartoons are just for kids!? Madness! Perhaps the key to drawing in audiences is soaring imagination; the previous shows mentioned are bursting with creativity, and to lean on a recent example, we have the excellent Steven Universe.

It arrived back in 2013, giving fans very brief, short-burst episodes sci-fi fantasy fun. Now, we’ll see the titular character take on his biggest challenge yet – a film!

How to watch Steven Universe: The Movie

Steven Universe was a bit of a game-changer, in that it was the TV channel’s first show to be created solely by a woman, according to Wikipedia

NO TIME TO DIE | Trailer 2

Over the years it’s built up a solid reputation, but in the series’ most ambitious move yet, we’re looking at Steven Universe: The Movie, a feature-length adventure which has been teased for some time now; it was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2018.

It looks like it aired on Cartoon Network USA at 9 pm (UK time) on Monday, September 2nd 2019, according to TV Passport. Unfortunately, information surrounding its air date on Cartoon Network UK is yet to surface. The American DVD release is set for Tuesday, November 12th 2019, and can actually be pre-ordered on UK Amazon from £15.97 right now. However, it is (of course) the US release, so you’ll either need a Region 1 DVD player or a multi-region player.

However, it appears the product is being sold by independent sellers, so availability is inevitably slim. When the release date rolls around availability should be far better, and hopefully, more information surrounding UK release has surfaced by then – we’ll be sure to keep an eye on potential updates.

What is it about?

Remember ‘Change Your Mind’, the season 5 four-part finale?

Well, Steven Universe: The Movie is set two years after the events of episodes 157 through 160, meaning our titular hero is now 16-years-old. All looks well at first, but peace is shattered when a mysterious Gem – equipped with a giant drill – lands and threatens to rid Earth of all that is living.

With the stakes raised higher than ever before, the Crystal Gems are forced to band together. They have forty-eight hours to save the planet, but can they overcome such incredible odds? It’s the most ambitious outing of Steven Universe yet, and it’s been eagerly anticipated ever since the teasers began to emerge.

A Cartoon Network future classic?

The variety of the older shows we mentioned earlier can be considered bonafide Cartoon Network classics, but we’re always curious to speculate which will become the new nostalgia-fueled favourite in years to come.

In the realm of animation, we look to modern hits like Adventure Time and Rick and Morty, but honestly, it would be wise to predict that fans will still be praising Steven Universe in years to come as something quite special.

The five-time Emmy-nominated show continues to sculpt an admirable legacy with the next logical step – Steven Universe: The Movie – also proving a triumph. Thanks to the Cartoon Network US premiere, the verdict is out, with the previously cited Amazon page currently displaying a four-and-a-half star average with thirty-four reviews, with some even going as far to call it “beautiful” – excitement is high.
