A reminder of the new Roles said to come with the Red Dead Redemption 2 Online Summer Update.

Rockstar has now announced the release date for the Red Dead Redemption 2 Online Summer Update.

Original story:

A number of people are begging God for confirmation about a PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2, but those who already own the game on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are busy pleading with Rockstar to announce a release date for the Online Summer Update said to deliver three new Roles.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is either the greatest open-world game of all time or an outdated bore depending on who you ask, yet most people on either spectrum unanimously agree that its online is sorely lacking in things to do.

This is because the game hasn't seen a major update in what feels like forever according to the internet, meaning the fanbase is starving for fresh content in an empty desert that seemingly lacks any semblance of hope.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Online Summer Update will introduce three new Roles

Rockstar has previously stated their intentions to make Red Dead Online as big of a cashcow as Grand Theft Auto Online, but even their biggest fans will admit that they haven't achieved that lofty feat since the beta launched back in November 2018.

This can be put down to a myriad of reasons, but arguably the biggest is the recurring argument that there's just nothing to do.

As someone who has only dabbled in the online portion since its biggest update in May, the argument that it lacks things to do isn't a perspective I can wholly agree with.

That being said, it's impossible to deny from even an outsider's perspective that fans are desperate for new additions. And this is why the Online Summer Update is so desired.

Per Rockstar themselves, the Summer update will introduce "substantial" changes to "combat and movement to allow for a more responsive control system that still feels natural."

The Summer update will also introduce additional Damage Reduction for defensive players, along with many more lootable items such as the occasional gold tooth.

NAG additionally reports that it sounds as if players will be able to get a dog, but the most exciting inclusion is the new character career paths for Free Roam.

These three roles are the Bounty Hunter, the Trader and the Collector, and they're said to be the first in an ongoing series.

Becoming a Bounty Hunter will allow you to capture or kill wanted players, and this will unlock special items such as a reinforced lasso, intricate gun-spinning tricks and advanced tracking skills.

Meanwhile, becoming a Trader will provide you with a bunch of new opportunities to seize materials and valuable goods to sell with your trusty companion Cripps. The ensuing expansion of your business will also grant you new skills, as well as improve your satchel or add new assets to your business.

Finally, a Collector is a wanderer who explores the world for rare and valuable goods. Once you find a mystic travelling saleswoman, you'll then be unleashed into the wild to pursue lost jewellery, rare arrowheads and other treasures to sell as a bundle or on their own.

Doing this will reward you with unique tools such as Refined Binoculars and a Metal Detector to help you discover the wild west's greatest lost treasures.

When the Online Summer Update eventually arrives, Rockstar has made assurances that players will be able to play and progress across all three roles simultaneously instead of being restricted to just one.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Online Summer Update release date

Unfortunately, all we've heard from Rockstar back in August is that the above update will arrive "later this summer."

This suggests that the update will launch before September 21-23 where Summer changes to Winter in America.

Yet, despite the suggestion of its release being ever so close, a number of fans are frustrated about the lack of a release date.

This goes all the way back to August with the frustration still being as prevalent here in September.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
