Celtic snapped up Manchester United’s Lee O’Connor yesterday.

Left back Greg Taylor was the big signing for Celtic on deadline day, but they also secured two more prospects for the future.
Defenders Jeremie Frimpong and Lee O’Connor joined the Bhoys too, leaving Manchester City and Manchester United respectively for moves to Parkhead.
Frimpong’s move continues the relationship between City and Celtic, whilst O’Connor reunites with Republic of Ireland Under-19 teammates Jonathan Afolabi and Barry Coffey.
O’Connor joined United in 2016, and seemingly caught Celtic’s eye during 21 Premier League 2 appearances for the Red Devils last season.
Able to play right back, centre back or left back, O’Connor offers great versatility across the back four, and at 19 he has plenty of potential to become a first-team player.
Celtic fans may have bad memories of the last full back they signed from United, as Saidy Janko struggled to impress following his 2015 move to Parkhead.

However, Celtic supporters may have their concerns eased by the following comments made by former United defender and Premier League winner John O’Shea, who spoke to JOE.ie about O’Connor earlier this year.
O’Shea suggested that O’Connor was ‘top quality’ when he saw him play against Reading Under-23’s, and also saw that switching from right back to left back was absolutely no problem for him, which will be a boost for Neil Lennon.
“Recently I did a thing for MUTV, they were playing Reading Under-23s and I was able to watch Lee up close,” said O’Shea. “And obviously, other people had been talking to me about him. I’ve been trying to keep an eye on his career, and he was quality, top quality on the pitch. He was very comfortable, he went right-back to left-back in a breeze, it was no problem to him,” he added.
