Tottenham Hotspur squandered a two-goal lead in the North London derby, but Harry Winks did impress the supporters.

A number of Spurs fans have taken to Twitter to laud Harry Winks’ performance in the North London derby, with plenty suggesting that he was the standout performer on a frustrating afternoon for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

Spurs threw away a two-goal lead at the Emirates. Christian Eriksen evoked memories of Paul Stalteri’s famous goal against West Ham to slide home the opener, and Harry Kane doubled the lead from the spot.

However, Alexandre Lacazette pulled one back before the break and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang equalised with a clever finish in the second-half.

It may have been a disappointing result for Tottenham, but Winks’ display appears to have impressed a lot of the supporters on social media.

Whoscored.com shows that he completed 34 of his 37 passes. No player who started the game for either side boasted a better pass completion record than the 23-year-old, while he also made more challenges than anyone else on the pitch, with six successful tackles.

It was Winks’ great work on the wing and pass into Heung-min Son that led to the challenge that allowed Kane to score from the spot. And plenty of Tottenham fans suggested that the academy graduate – who has come in for criticism – produced a performance that he could be extremely proud of, with some expressing their excitement for the partnership that he could potentially form with Tanguy Ndombele in the future.

Here is how some of the Spurs supporters reacted to Winks’ display…
