The one-and-only Siobhan Finneran is back in ITV’s star-studded A Confession.

Are you ready for more captivating drama?

Of course you are. Well, there’s no better place to go on Monday, September 2nd 2019 than over to ITV at 9 pm to catch the premiere of a hotly anticipated new series.

TV fans are expecting big things from the unravelling narrative of A Confession, and there are already a good few reasons to suggest audiences won’t be disappointed. Firstly, it boasts the immensely talented Jeff Pope as writer and executive-producer, who has worked on such winning projects as Hatton Garden, Little Boy Blue, Philomena and the recent Laurel and Hardy biopic, 2018’s Stan & Ollie

Then, we have Martin Freeman (Sherlock, The Hobbit) in the central role of DS Steve Fulcher. Then again, there’s plenty more talent aboard…

A Confession: Siobhan Finneran

This exciting new series chronicles the Detective Superintendent as he desperately searches to find a missing young woman. In his pursuit of the truth, he encounters the harrowing mysteries of a killer and must fight to save victims, himself and his career.

Its narrative is told over six parts and – according to Radio Times – is also based on a true story. The Wiltshire-set drama has a stellar cast, with the likes of Imelda Staunton (Vera Drake), Dominic Tighe (Next of Kin) and more bringing depth to this hard-hitting portrait.

On the other hand, we’re here to highlight the wondrously talented Siobhan Finneran, who tackles the role of Elaine Pickford, Sian O’Callaghan’s (played by Florence Howard) mother.

Siobhan Finneran: Movies & TV

The 53-year-old English actress has landed a crucial role in the ITV series, and glancing over her body of work it’s no surprise she was chosen.

It’s such an important part, but her previous screen achievements more than reinforce the casting decision. Her breakout role was in the 1987 cult comedy film Rita, Sue and Bob Too, which arguably needs no introduction whatsoever! Its reputation certainly precedes it and saw her gain the role of Josie Phillips in Coronation Street afterwards.

She’s been in plenty of projects, but let’s focus on her film roles real quickly. The most notable include 2007’s Boy A (she played Kelly) which stars Andrew Garfield (The Amazing Spider-Man) in a criminally underrated earlier role. Then there are the likes of 2013’s The Selfish Giant (Mrs. Swift) – personally, one of the finest films of the decade – Nobody from Nowhere (Elizabeth Traven) and Apostasy (Ivanna), which if you haven’t seen it, is incredibly performed by all involved.

Just from her brief filmography, it’s clear that she’s somewhat of a force to be reckoned with, and we haven’t even listed her TV work…

Siobhan has appeared in such series as The Widow (Sally Newell), Cold Feet (Nikki Kirkbright), The Loch (DCI Lauren Quigley), Happy Valley (Clare Cartwright), Benidorm (Janice Garvey), The Syndicate (Mandy), Downton Abbey (Sarah O’Brien), Clocking Off (Julie O’Neill) and more.

Is she on Instagram?

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look as though the actress is on Instagram. However, there is a fan page for her which you can go follow over at @sfinnerantv; it boasts over two-thousand followers and is perhaps an essential page to follow if you’re set to become a fan.

A Confession looks set to showcase her expert abilities over the coming episodes, but it’s absolutely worth checking out some of her previous work; as mentioned, there are some real gems there.

We hope you enjoy exploring!
