Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo’s performance for Celtic this evening did not impress Tam McManus, who believes that he will struggle against Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers at Ibrox this weekend.

Ibrox Stadium of Rangers

Tam McManus has given his take on Twitter on the performance of Celtic defender Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo against AIK, and has warned manager Neil Lennon against playing him against Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers at Ibrox this weekend.

Bolingoli-Mbombo was in action for Celtic in the second leg of their Europa League playoff round tie against AIK this evening.

Neil Lennon’s side got their better of the Swedish club 4-1 in the second leg to go through 6-1 on aggregate.

Former Hibernian forward McManus was following the match, and the BBC pundit was not particularly impressed with the display produced by left-back Bolingoli-Mbombo – who joined the Hoops from Rapid Vienna in the summer transfer window for a fee reported by The Scottish Sun to be worth £3 million.

McManus has warned Celtic manager Lennon against playing the left-back in the Old Firm derby against Rangers at Ibrox this weekend.

Encouraging display

Bolingoli-Mbombo was not particularly impressive against AIK, but the left-back did get the job done and should be pleased with his overall display.

The 24-year-old was decent at the back, and during the second half, the left-back went on some good attacking forays and contributed to Celtic’s attack.

Although the left-back conceded the penalty that AIK scored in the first half and should have been more alert on a few occasions, his performance was not as

bad as in some previous games.
