The Owls striker was largely lacklustre at the New York Stadium and did not appear to celebrate the late winner for the Hillsborough side.
A number of Sheffield Wednesday fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Jordan Rhodes' performance and reaction to Atdhe Nuhiu's late winner in Wednesday night's Carabao Cup second-round victory at Rotherham United.
The two South Yorkshire sides locked horns at the New York Stadium but the game was far from a classic, with neither side really getting into the higher gears for most of the encounter, and it looked to be heading for a stalemate and a penalty shootout.
However, a late corner was not dealt with by the Millers and the ball was crossed back into danger, where Atdhe Nuhiu reacted quickest to rifle the ball high into the net to put the Owls in the next round at the expense of their neighbouring town's team.
Rhodes had already put in a very lacklustre display for Lee Bullen's side but, as well as that, while the other players in and around the Rotherham box celebrated the late winner emphatically, Rhodes appeared somewhat more nonchalant when the ball went in.
This did not go down particularly well with the Hillsborough faithful, some of whom took to social media to slate the £10.5million signing from Middlesbrough (Transfermarkt):

Always been wanting Rhodes to come good for us but I can’t help but notice his body language! So uninterested...prime example, his reaction to tonight’s last minute winner...piss poor #swfc— Walt (@MalinOwl) 28 August 2019
Can we all agree now that Jordan Rhodes is a spent force and put the ‘if he he gets chances he’ll score’ to bed? #swfc— Maplo (@Maplo16) 29 August 2019
Just seen Rhodes reaction when we scored!! Iv given him benefit of doubt before thinking he will come good, but that tells me he ain’t bothered #swfc— lee whitt (@lee_hlw) 29 August 2019
As someone who try’s to back Rhodes as much as possible it’s proper annoyed me how he doesn’t celebrate the goal, yeah Nuhiu shoves him out way but it’s a team effort mate come on. Bet he doesn’t fit in with the team at all anymore, especially like the core social group #swfc— Alex Ozzie Osborne (@AlexSwfcOsborne) 29 August 2019
What’s wrong with Rhodes??? Only one who didn’t celebrate and generally looked like he didn’t care— Chris Holland (@chrish18181) 29 August 2019
I’ve wanted Rhodes to come good with us, but seeing his reaction when we scored is very disappointing. Play as a team, celebrate as a team! His hearts not with us. Fox gets stick every week, but to be fair to him, he’s improved a lot and he’s straight in there with the boys— Mike Rendle (@MikeRendle1) 29 August 2019
One fan did offer an alternative explanation, however:
Rhodes reacted the way he did cause if you watch closely... Nuhiu shoves Rhodes in the back and takes it straight off his head to score.. that’s why. #swfc— Ben Savage (@bensaavage) 29 August 2019
Up next for Wednesday is Saturday's Championship meeting with Queens Park Rangers at Hillsborough, while their Carabao Cup third-round tie at home against Everton takes place late next month.
