A number of fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Rangers loanee Ross McCrorie's performance after Portsmouth produced an upset in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

McCrorie got the chance to make the fourth appearance of his loan spell this week, and the tie handed the 21-year-old the opportunity to come up against a boss he would have previously been hoping to impress with Queens Park Rangers now managed by Mark Warburton - who had left Ibrox before the youngster made his first-team debut.

It was the Rangers player who came out on top against the former Gers boss at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium, as Pompey won 2-0 to set up a mouthwatering third round tie with Southampton.

And McCrorie - who started the game in midfield - had a crucial hand in the second goal that clinched the game. The ball was played to the Gers ace around the halfway line and he produced a brilliant turn of pace to get down the line and past the defender before crossing the ball for Marcus Harness.

It was the kind of performance that may have made Jackett rethink his plans for McCrorie. He had played at right-back in his previous appearance for the League One side, but may have perhaps reminded his manager of how good he can be in the middle of the park.

Several Portsmouth fans have lauded the starlet on social media, but there have also been positive comments from Rangers supporters and even a QPR fan who suggested that he is some player. It would not be a surprise to see him play a much more prominent role in midfield moving forward.
