The 18-year-old is deemed one of the most talented youngsters at the Villa Park academy and did well in his debut for Dean Smith’s side.
A number of Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to give their thoughts on Cameron Archer’s debut display as Dean Smith’s Villans ran out 6-1 winners at Crewe Alexandra in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.
Ezri Konsa, Conor Hourihane (two goals), Keinan Davis, Frederic Guilbert and Jack Grealish all got on the scoresheet to get the better of the Railwaymen, who despite being on the receiving end of a heavy defeat, nonetheless put the visitors under pressure.
Archer came on for Keinan Davis in the 82nd minute at Gresty Road and looked very bright in his cameo, being involved in a tussle with Eddie Nolan soon after taking to the field, putting himself about, and generally looking very much ‘in place’ on the pitch.
Here is what some Villa fans said about the 18-year-old academy graduate’s display on the night and what they hope to see from him going forward:
Archer had a decent 10 minutes to be fair to him! Nice to see youngsters being given a bit of a chance! #avfc— Tom Young (@AvfcTomYoung) 27 August 2019
Professional & clinical from #avfc tonight. Solid from Konsa & good to see @ConorHourihane back doing bits. Nice performance from Marvelous, tidy on the ball, lots of composure & will be a good asset this season. Finally the young lad Archer looked very lively & not out of place— Bhavik Patel (@BazlaP) 27 August 2019
I know it was only a short appearance, but Archer looked surprisingly comfortable at senior level football.— Rob Prince (@Robbb182) 27 August 2019
He received and distributed the ball well under pressure, and had a nice hand in Grealish’s goal too.#AVFC

A few years ago we would have lost that and now our unused players so far showed how much depth we have.
-Marvelous was Marvelous
-Konsa/Hause great with the ball
-Davis hold up play class
-Midfield winning every battle
-Archer great cameo when on too#avfc
Very tidy debut from Cameron Archer. Good little cameo from someone not long out of the U18’s #avfc— Kevin Corcoran (@KevinCorAvfc) 27 August 2019
Tell you what. That archers looks tricky. Brings something to the first team that none of the other strikers seem to.— Harry_AVFC (@harry_blissett) 27 August 2019
Always nice to see an #avfc debutant from the academy, Archer showed up well in his cameo. Involved in the final goal, appetite shown to regain possession & some neat touches when on the ball. Indicates a path is being established, should the youngsters show the necessary quality— Lee Inman (@LeeInman4) 28 August 2019
Archer for Villa hopefully he will be a prospect for us in the future #AVFC— Ben Wright (@Benztheking316) 28 August 2019
As reported by the Birmingham Mail, Archer is seen as one of the most talented prospects in the Villa academy and is very highly rated by the coaches including Smith himself.
Given that Villa have a striker shortage at the moment with Jonathan Kodjia out injured and Scott Hogan and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy away on loan, Archer could well get more senior minutes in the coming weeks.
