Aston Villa progressed through to the next round of the EFL Cup on Tuesday night by beating Crewe.

Aston Villa supporters on Twitter feel that Matt Targett endured a tough game during Villa’s 6-1 win against Crewe in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night.

Like a number of Villa players, Targett was making his debut for the club, but just before the break, he was forced off the pitch through injury – he joined from Southampton for a fee in the region of £12 million in the summer [Express & Star]

However, during the time he was on the pitch, Villa fans felt he struggled to get going as Crewe’s flying wideman, Owen Dale gave him a ‘right going over’.

In the end, his night was cut short, as Fred Guilbert took his place and ended up getting on the scoresheet late on in the game.

Villa’s attacking talent proved to be too good for the League Two side in the end, as Dean Smith’s side put their name into the hat for the next round.

Neil Taylor is Villa’s number one left-back and it seems as though Targett will have to do well to dispose of him now because he has made a strong start to the season.

Nonetheless, with Targett now on the sidelines, it means that Kortney Hause will become ever so important for the club because of his ability to play at left-back and at centre-back.

Against Crewe, he played alongside Ezri Konsa, with the duo impressing and Konsa opening the scoring on the night.
