Celtic have another rumoured target in the position recently vacated by a trio of players on either permanent or loan deals.
Gideon Mensah is the latest left-back to be linked with a move to Celtic following Kieran Tierney’s departure.
But what should those of a Celtic persuasion know about their rumoured transfer target?
HITC Sport has the lowdown, right here…
What’s the story?
According to Ghana Soccernet, Mensah will decide within the next 24 hours whether he wants to join Celtic or the Belgian side, Zulte Waragem, with a loan move preferred by his current employers, Red Bull Salzburg, who gave him a new five-year contract earlier in 2019.
Who is he?
A 21-year-old Ghanaian (obviously) left-back. He started his career back home with WAFA (West African Football Academy) before moving to Austrian football with FC Liefering – one of Salzburg’s feeder clubs. He’s been on the latter’s books since 2017 but has yet to make a competitive appearance, spending the second half of last season on loan to Sturm Graz.
What’s his playing style?
Aggressive and attacking. Mensah boasts a great left foot and an equally good first touch which, combined with his electric pace, allows him to get into dangerous positions often.
Are Celtic (and Zulte Waragem) the only ones keen?
According to Ghana Soccernet, Sturm Graz are also interested in a season-long loan deal, with Barcelona also listed as suitors (yes, really) after he reportedly impressed in a friendly against Real Madrid.
Here’s something interesting…
According to Transfermarkt, Mensah is represented by the Sync Global Sports agency, whose clients are also said to include the former Stoke City striker, Saido Berahino. His new club? Zulte Waragem.
Would Mensah be a good addition for Celtic?
