Celtic will be hoping to lay their marker against Rangers in the Old Firm derby on Sunday.

BBC Sport pundit Stephen Thompson has claimed that he expects Odsonne Edouard to start Celtic’s Old Firm encounter, but he backed Rangers to win the match.

Both teams will be first concentrating on their European fixtures on Thursday night before turning their attention to the Scottish Premiership encounter at the weekend.

Eduoard, who joined Celtic for £9 million in 2018 [Sky Sports], didn’t start Celtic’s win against Hearts, as it seems as though Neil Lennon is keeping his players fresh for a very busy week.

Speaking to Sportscene on BBC One Scotland (26/08/2019 at 12:50 am), Thompson shared his thoughts on the up and coming Old Firm clash.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Thompson told Sportscene. “It’s going to be the toughest one to call in a long, long time. Two teams in great form. And two teams with so many talented players, especially in the forward areas.

“I think the midfield battle is going to be key. I think Edouard will come in [for Celtic] and start the match – I will go for a Rangers win at home.”

There’s no doubt that both teams possess really strong attacks going into this fixture and on top of that they are well in-form.

Therefore, it wouldn’t be a surprise if both teams to do score at Ibrox because in previous encounters, the pace this fixture has been played at has been pretty high.
