Celtic are reportedly moving for Red Bull Salzburg’s Gideon Mensah.
According to Ghana Soccernet, Red Bull Salzburg defender Gideon Mensah is deciding on whether to join Celtic or Zulte Waregem, with an answer expected today.
The Bhoys are in the market for another left back before the end of the transfer window, even after bringing in Boli Bolingoli from Rapid Vienna.
Yet having lost both Kieran Tierney and Emilio Izaguirre this summer, another left back is needed – and Celtic may well go back to Austria for another target after the Bolingoli deal.
It’s claimed that Salzburg talent Mensah has offers from both Celtic and Zulte Waregem, and will be deciding which club to join by the end of the day.
Mensah was allegedly targeted by Barcelona for their B side last week, but the move collapsed, meaning Celtic may now have real hope of getting a deal done.
The report notes that Mensah would only be a loan deal, but that still makes sense for Celtic as they attempt to replace Tierney in Neil Lennon’s ranks.
Mensah spent the second half of last season on loan at Sturm Graz, and he impressed in pre-season for Salzburg, especially against Real Madrid.
The Ghanaian is quick and adept going forward, whilst his potential means Celtic may see future profit in him down the line if they can turn his loan move permanent – especially if Barcelona have already had their eyes on him.
