West Ham United forward Javier Hernandez could miss out on playing this evening.

West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini has told the London Evening Standard that Javier Hernandez has picked up an injury in training.

Hernandez could have been in line to start for West Ham against Newport County in the Carabao Cup tonight if he had been fit.

However, it seems that new signing Albian Ateji will lead the line.

And Hernandez may not even be involved with the match day squad as he picked up an injury while training for the Hammers.

“Javier had, during a training session on Thursday, a problem in his knee, it was a kick,” Pellegrini said.

“I don’t know if he will be fit for Tuesday but on Wednesday he should be working with the team again.”

Hernandez looks to face a real right for game time at West Ham this season, with Ateji arriving.

Sebastian Haller looks to have established himself as West Ham’s main man up-front already, after the powerful forward netted twice in Pellegrini’s side’s last match against Watford.

And if Ateji does impress tonight in Hernandez’s absence then it could be that the £16 million striker (London Evening Standard) becomes third choice forward at the London Stadium.

West Ham’s next Premier League match comes against Norwich City, when Hernandez could return to the bench again, if he recovers from injury.
