West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini has told the London Evening Standard that he's planning to give Albian Ajeti his debut tonight.
The Hammers are in Carabao Cup action tonight, travelling to take on Newport County, who have been a dangerous team in cup competitions under Michael Flynn.
Pellegrini will be hoping to avoid a giant-killing in South Wales, and his squad will be in great spirits after beating Watford 3-1 on Saturday.
Sebastien Haller scored twice in that win, but having just returned from injury, the Frenchman may not be risked from the start against Newport.
Javier Hernandez has picked up an injury in training, and that all means that new signing Ajeti is likely to start for the first time in a West Ham shirt.
The 22-year-old joined from Basel before the transfer deadline, but has yet to make his debut for the club having sat behind Haller and Hernandez so far.
Fans will be excited to see him in action after hitting 21 goals and 11 assists for Basel last season, and Pellegrini has admitted that he is planning to give Ajeti his debut, feeling that he's doing 'very well' in training and deserves to play.
“I am sure that Ajeti will play,” said Pellegrini. “He deserves that opportunity, he is doing very well during training sessions,” he added.
