Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has shared how Victor Orta sold the Elland Road move to him, joking how the Whites director described Marcelo Bielsa as "crazy" and with "something about him", adding that the Argentine earmarked the Middlesbrough man as "the one he wants" ('Take Us Home: Leeds United', as reported by Teesside Live).

Bamford joined Leeds from Boro in the summer of 2018 for an undisclosed fee which BBC Sport said could be worth up to £10million and, although he was somewhat hit and miss last season, the 25-year-old has hit the ground running in 2019-20 with four goals and an assist from five Championship games (BBC Sport).

Orta worked for Middlesbrough as their head of European recruitment for 17 months from December 2015 to May 2017 and Bamford, who had been on loan at Boro during 2014-15, was signed on a long-term contract from Chelsea by then Boro boss Aitor Karanka and Orta in January 2017.

Speaking about his subsequent move from Middlesbrough to Leeds on Take Us Home, Bamford disclosed how Orta told him that he thought the transfer would make the Spaniard the most hated man in the Teesside town.

“He said, 'Leeds really want you'," Bamford said of Orta, as reported by Teesside Live. "He said, 'Bielsa, I tell you now he's crazy, he's got something about him but he's one of the most respected managers in the world'. They'd been looking at different strikers and he said, 'he's pointed out you're the one he wants'. I'm smiling down the phone and saying 'Okay, but I don't think Middlesbrough will let me go'.

After the deal was completed and Bamford arrived at Elland Road, the striker said in the documentary: "Victor gave me a big hug and embraced me and said, 'Yes finally'. I remember exactly what he said, he said: 'If I wasn't before, I'm definitely now the most hated man in Middlesbrough. I've just stolen their main guy'."

Leeds currently sit top of the Championship table and will face Stoke City at Elland Road in the Carabao Cup tonight, days after having ran out 3-0 winners in the league at the Bet365 Stadium.
