TalkSport pundit Tony Cascarino has compared Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford to Liverpool legend John Aldridge.

Cascarino stated that just like Aldridge during his playing career, Bamford isn’t ‘particularly quick’, ‘technically incredible’ or ‘exceptional in the air’ yet they still managed to score goals.

Bamford has started the season in a very strong fashion and over the weekend he found the back of the net again when he scored during Leeds’ 3-0 win over Stoke.

Speaking to Weekend Sports Breakfast on TalkSport (25/08/2019 at 6:55 am), Cascarino explained why Bamford reminds him of Aldridge, who scored 63 goals during his Liverpool career [LFC History].

“I played with a lad called John Aldridge, who played for Liverpool and Real Sociedad,” Cascarino told TalkSport. “Do you know John got goals everywhere he played.

“He wasn’t the quickest, he wasn’t the most technical of players and John will be the first to tell you this. He wasn’t bad in the air, he could get a few headers.

“There isn’t a habit of getting goals that some strikers just have. Bamford fits that. I look at Patrick Bamford seen him at MK Dons when Chelsea loaned him out and I looked at him and every time I came away and thought, ‘he’s got a goal today’. I would think he’s not particularly quick, he’s not exceptional in the air, he’s not technically incredible, yet he gets goals.”

Last season, Bamford and then-Leeds striker Kemar Roofe suffered injuries at the wrong time and it meant that none of them were able to play the full season, or near to it.

If Bamford can provide that during this campaign then more than likely he will hit the 20 plus goal mark and help the club to promotion.
