Glasgow Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is an important player in Steven Gerrard’s team, while Odsonne Edouard is a key figure for Neil Lennon’s Celtic.

Sir Kenny Dalglish has outlined a weakness in Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos in The Sunday Post.

The Celtic legend believes that Morelos is not great in terms of link-up play for Rangers outside the opposition’s penalty box.

Dalglish has also pointed out at the Colombia international forward’s disciplinary record.

The former Celtic star made the comments about Morelos while discussing whether Morelos or Bournemouth-owned striker Jermain Defoe should start for Rangers against the Hoops in the Old Firm derby this coming weekend.

Dalglish wrote in The Sunday Post: “Alfredo is not quite as polished in terms of link-up play outside the box.

“But the Colombian is first-class in front of goal, and uses his physicality well against opposition defenders.

“His disciplinary record has been good this season after his five red cards in the previous campaign. But one swallow doesn’t make a summer, and question marks remain.”

Praise for Odsonne Edouard

Dalglish has also said that Odsonne Edouard should start for Celtic against Rangers at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership next weekend.

The former Celtic and Liverpool forward believes that the 21-year-old striker is a better option than 29-year-old Scotland international striker Leigh Griffiths, who is fit and available.

Dalglish wrote in The Sunday Post: “In contrast, Neil won’t need to go over and over in his head who will lead the line for his team. It’s Odsonne Edouard – all day long.

“The young Frenchman cost the club the best part of £9 million from PSG just over a year ago, and he looks every inch the part. His free-kick goal the other night against AIK was sensational.

“He has scored against Rangers at Ibrox before, and he will fancy his chances again. He is powerful and has a quiet confidence about him. I like him.”

Big game

Both Celtic and Rangers have won their respective three games in the Scottish Premiership so far this season, and this coming weekend’s game promises to be hugely exciting and intriguing.

Playing at Ibrox will give Rangers an advantage over their bitter Old Firm rivals on Sunday afternoon, but the Hoops do have a very good and strong team.
