According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are growing increasingly confident of a new deal for defender Toby Alderweireld before his contract expires.
Tottenham activated a one-year option in Alderweireld's contract earlier this year, which also meant a £25million release clause became active – but nobody has paid it.
That has left Alderweireld to stay at Spurs, but with his contract expiring next summer, fans have been preparing themselves for his exit in a year's time.
However, it's now claimed that Spurs have renewed hope of finding an agreement with the Belgian international, in news that will surely excite Tottenham fans.
A move to keep Alderweireld long-term has seemed unlikely for a while now, and most just expected him to run down his contract and join a major European side for free in 2020.
Instead, the 30-year-old may now stay with the club, but can expect a handsome increase on his current £80,000-a-week wages (Spotrac).
If Tottenham get Alderweireld and teammate Jan Vertonghen sorted out with new contracts, Spurs fans will be ecstatic – but Vertonghen seems a little less likely than his compatriot right now.
