Manchester United are reportedly planning a move for James Maddison.

According to The Mirror, Manchester United are planning a huge £80million move for Leicester City playmaker James Maddison in 2020.

The Red Devils have already raided Leicester for one of their top talents by signing Harry Maguire, and now want to reunite him with former teammate Maddison.

The 22-year-old hit seven goals and seven assists in his first Premier League campaign last season, and showed his quality again on Saturday with an outstanding assist for Jamie Vardy against Sheffield United.

It's now claimed that United want Maddison as their new star playmaker, and may go to around £80million for him, the same price they paid for Maguire.

With Jesse Lingard struggling so far this season, signing a true number 10 like Maddison makes sense, but claims of the price now being around £80million may kill off any lingering Tottenham hopes.

Over the summer, Tottenham allegedly wanted Maddison as a replacement for Christian Eriksen, but The Mirror claimed the price was £60million back then.

Eriksen ended up staying past the English transfer deadline, meaning Spurs didn't need to firm up their interest in Maddison anyway, but it would make sense if he remains on the Tottenham radar for the 2020 windows.

Maddison is creative and dangerous from long-range, whilst possessing superb quality from set pieces, which are the key attributes that have made Eriksen such an important player over the last six years.

The Englishman makes perfect sense as Eriksen's heir, but that price is starting to get away from Spurs. £80million would be a club-record for Spurs, which seems unlikely given how a permanent deal for Giovani Lo Celso would set Tottenham back next summer.

£60million would have put him in line with Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele, but £80million seems beyond Spurs right now – and that may be a little frustrating given how well he fits as a potential Eriksen successor.
