The Portugal international really, really struggled for Everton.
Oh dear. You’d hope that Everton’s Andre Gomes doesn’t search his own name on Twitter.
That is because the Toffees midfielder is being absolutely slaughtered by fans of the Goodison Park club on social media.
Everton suffered a first Premier League defeat of the season after losing 2-0 at Aston Villa on Friday night.
And to be fair, the Portugal international didn’t cover himself in glory.
Gomes fell asleep for the quick free-kick which led to Villa’s opener and overall he looked a pale imitation of the player who stole Everton fans’ hearts last season.
There was minor improvement after the break, but not enough for Toffees supporters, some of whom say it was the worst-ever midfield performance they’ve seen.
The good news for Gomes is that yesterday wasn’t an accurate reflection of his talent, for the former Barcelona midfielder is a class act and he proved it last season.
