The first episode of 13 Reasons Why’s third season ends with a tribute to Steve Golin but just who was he?

13 Reasons Why is back!

Season 3 of the Netflix show returned to the global streaming service on August 23rd, 2019 and switches the series on its head as it completely changes focus from the 13 tapes of suicide victim Hannah Baker.

The first episode of the new season ends with a tribute to the late Steve Golin but just who was he and what connection does he have with 13 Reasons Why?

13 Reasons Why season 3

While seasons 1 and 2 of 13 Reasons Why focused on the suicide of a student by the name of Hannah Baker, season 3 changes tack and instead tells the story of Bryce Walker, a wealthy jock at the school who is murdered just before season 3 gets underway.

The third season focuses on who killed Bryce and it emerges that the killer could be anyone from a number of students all of whom may have had a motive to kill the pupil who definitely made a number of enemies during the first two seasons.

Season 3’s first episode ended with a tribute to Steve Golin, with the caption hero, mentor, friend, but just who was he?

Who is Steve Golin?

Steve Golin, who 13 Reasons Why paid tribute to at the end of season 3’s first episode, was an Oscar-winning film producer who worked on seasons 1 and 2 of the Netflix original before his death on April 21st, 2019.

Golin, after fighting off cancer once before, succumbed to a relapse of the disease at the age of 64.

The producer was a crucial part in the initial success of 13 Reasons Why and his loss was clearly a big blow for the cast and crew on the series.

What else has Steve Golin worked on?

Aside from 13 Reasons Why, Steve Golin has worked on some of the biggest films in recent history.

His biggest credit to date came for his producing role in the best picture-winning Spotlight which took home a golden statue at the 2016 Academy Awards.

On top of that, Golin has worked on some hugely successful films including The Revenant – the film that won Leo DiCaprio his long-overdue Oscar, The Fifth Estate and Being John Malkovich.

His final producing role came in the satirical TV series Catch-22, based on the best-selling novel of the same name.

Meanwhile, season 3 of 13 Reason Why released on Netflix on August 23rd, 2019 and is available to stream now.
