Fraser Forster has joined Celtic from Southampton.
Fraser Forster is heading back to Celtic after a deal was agreed with Southampton.
Forster has joined Celtic on loan, for the rest of the 2019/20 season, BBC Sport report.
Celtic sold him to Southampton for £10 million five years ago, so the deal is excellent value for the club.
The big issue is whether Forster is the same player, having lost his place at the Saints.
He is now 31-years-old, which is young for a goalkeeper, so he could still have five years or so left in him if he can rediscover his form.
Celtic needed extra cover in goal, with first choice stopper Scott Bain picking up an injury.
Veteran Craig Gordon is still at Celtic, but the club are not taking any risks.
Manager Neil Lennon worked with Forster previously and has been key in pushing to get the deal done.
Southampton fans retain a lot of respect for Forster, even if he is no longer in the club's plans.
He leaves with good wishes, as shown by the messages below...
Good luck to the big man Fraser Forster on your move back to Celtic thank you for your contribution to #SaintsFC— @saintsworldfc (@saintsworldfc) August 22, 2019
It’s always been a shame that Forster’s form dipped so low but he was a huge figure in such a successful team under Ronald Koeman. Some of the abuse he received, even though his form was so poor, was so vile and unnecessary and he deserves his move. All the best Frase #SaintsFC— Dan Hargraves (@danhargraves_) August 22, 2019
Prime Forster is the best goalkeeper saints have had for 20 years. #saintsfc— Ewan Campbell (@EwanCampbell1NI) August 22, 2019
Absolutely delighted for Fraser Forster, was unbelievable for us under Koeman. Probably the best goalkeeper to play for us since Niemi IMO.— Andrew (@andrew_h2k19) August 22, 2019
All the best, big man. #saintsfc
Forster to Celtic, good move for all. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a player’s career decline after an injury as rapidly as Fraser Forster’s. Been so sad to watch. Hopefully some decent game time at a lower level will help get his career back on track. Best of luck Fraser!#saintsfc— Liam Houghton (@Liam_Houghton98) August 22, 2019
Forster to #CelticFC is a good fit all round. I know he is devastated not to get the chance to play under Hasenhuttl as he rates him very highly as a manager. There has not been any falling out #SaintsFC— Alex Crook (@alex_crook) August 22, 2019
