The Rangers manager Steven Gerrard had previously suggested that Rudden would be third-choice at Ibrox.
Some Rangers supporters think that a striker could be on his way to Ibrox before the close of the summer transfer window.
Earlier, Rangers allowed Zak Rudden to leave for Plymouth Argyle on a half-season loan deal.
And Rudden is now the fourth specialist centre forward to exit Ibrox since the end of last term, after Ryan Hardie, Andrew Dallas and Kyle Lafferty – each of whom have made permanent moves.
That leaves just Jermain Defoe, Alfredo Morelos and the forgotten man Joe Dodoo left as Steven Gerrard’s senior options.
And after the Rangers boss Gerrard previously suggested that Rudden would be his number three this campaign, the following Gers fans are predicting a new arrival.
Does this mean we are looking for a striker to join the squad in this transfer window…— Michael (@michland8) August 23, 2019
Just a squad player required as back up as we have our first picks…
SG referenced Rudden previously as our back up when asked about buying another striker….
So now what ?
Surely we must be looking to bring in another forward ?— Jt (@Jptsince92) August 23, 2019
Gerrard mentioned in the past weeks that Zak Rudden was in his plans as a third choice striker. With Zak away to Plymouth Argyle on loan it seems we may be signing a striker.— Curtis (@1872Curtis) August 23, 2019
I don’t think he was ever really going to be third striker so much as it was just Gerrard being cute with the media. Gaffer definitely likes him though, so hopefully he has another good loan spell.— GraemeButNotAFailedTrialist (@GraemeNotMurty) August 23, 2019
I’ll be honest wouldn’t mind brophy as a third choice who else would want to sit behind Morelos and Defoe who’s actually as good as them— Adam™ (@rfc_adam_) August 23, 2019
It definitely leaves us short in case of suspension or injury of our two strikers. Hopefully we’ll get another striker in before the window closes.— Bob Steele (@BobSteele55) August 23, 2019
If Rudden is going out on loan we must be bringing in another striker going by the gaffers comments?— Deej (@AlwaysRangers) August 22, 2019
The Plymouth manager Ryan Lowe is a close friend of Gerrard, having played with the 39-year-old in Liverpool’s youth teams.
Rudden scored a hat-trick for Rangers against Lowe’s Bury side – who later took Jamie Barjonas and Jordan Rossiter on loan from the Gers – last pre-season.
Who should Rangers sign as third-choice striker?
