Are Celtic getting the old band back together?
Five years after bidding an emotional farewell to the green half of Glasgow, Fraser Forster has returned. The three-time Premiership winning goalkeeper signed on a season-long loan from Southampton on Thursday night, aiming to get his career back on track after making just one league appearance for The Saints since Boxing Day 2017.
But it seems that Forster isn’t the only one dreaming of a second chance in the famous green and white hoops.
Gary Hooper, a striker who scored goals for fun during Neil Lennon’s first spell at the helm, retweeted a fan requesting his return in the aftermath of Forster’s homecoming. Hooper, by the way, is a free agent.
As is Joe Ledley.
At just 32, Ledley has a lot left to give. But despite impressing at Derby County, a Welsh international with 77 caps to his name hasn’t had a club since leaving The Rams in January and it seems that he wouldn’t say no to joining Forster at Celtic.
The former Cardiff and Crystal Palace enforcer ‘liked’ a fan’s Tweet demanding The Hoops ‘bring him home’. Whether Celtic would give any thought to re-signing a player who lifted four trophies in four years north of the border remains to be seen.
Celtic are crying out for competition for the ageing Scott Brown at the heart of midfield though Ledley, at just two years younger than the long-serving skipper, isn’t exactly the young buck many fans are hoping for.
