Nicholas has suggested in his predictions for the weekend, which is published every week on Sky Sports, that Everton have made vast improvements defensively.
“Everton haven't really clicked into action yet. I don't think they are going to be amazing to watch but the improvement has definitely been defensively - Michael Keane has started the season well,” he said.
However, only last week, Nicholas had his doubts over Everton’s defence.
The Toffees failed to replace Kurt Zouma over the summer, and the Scottish pundit seemed less convinced by Marco Silva’s back four at that point.
He said to Sky Sports, just six days ago: “They went big in the market and invested up front. Have they got strikers yet? Is there anything in there that could spark them into life?
“They have given the manager every resource he could get. Where are they going to play Alex Iwobi? I see a team that is going to be creative but weak at the back.”
Everton are the only side in the Premier League yet to concede a goal, and they seem to have changed Nicholas’s mind already.
One of the reasons that Everton have looked so strong defensively is because Yerry Mina has stepped into defence and coped so well.
Mina had a difficult first season at Goodison Park, but seems to be growing into his role now.
Everton can move to the top of the Premier League later this evening if they beat Aston Villa.
