Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Winks’ latest comments on Goal have seen him criticised by neutral fans.

Winks is massively popular at Tottenham, where he has forced his way into Mauricio Pochettino’s starting line-up.

The Spurs midfielder is not fully appreciated by supporters of other sides though.

And when Winks spoke about comparisons with Xavi, the comments raised eye brows.

“It's nice to be compared to such players, but there is still a long way to go for me,” Winks said.

“Nevertheless, Xavi is similar in his way of playing. Like me, he is not the most physical or the biggest player. I have always watched and admired him.”

And the Tottenham man has rather been ridiculed by fans from other teams for his comments.

Winks clearly still needs to develop his reputation outside of Tottenham, but at the north London club he is a hugely popular player.

Winks’s ability in possession makes him a crucial part of Tottenham’s midfield.

Winks has started in both of Spurs’ matches so far this season, and he has performed well to date.
