With just two weeks to go until the transfer window shuts, the mercurial Moroccan is facing an uncertain future at St Mary’s. Boufal came off the bench during that 3-0 opening day defeat to Burnley but he was left out of the squad entirely for Liverpool’s visit to the South Coast on Saturday.
Speaking to the Daily Echo earlier this month, however, head coach Ralph Hasenhuttl insisted that he was keen to offer the £16 million misfit an olive branch, raving about the winger’s ‘quality’ with the ball at his feet.
But should Hasenhuttl change his mind before the end of August, Celta would be more than happy to take Boufal back to Spain after the former Lille talisman spent the 2018/19 season on loan at the Balaidos.
"Yes, it could be an option because Boufal is a good player with good characteristics, different from what we have, capable of unbalancing (defenders) in one-on-one situations,” said former Spain international Minambres.
Big things were expected from Boufal when he made the move across the channel in 2016 though a player who was compared to Eden Hazard at Lille certainly didn’t make the same impact on English shores as the former Chelsea star.
But at just 25, and with a whole season of regular action at Celta under his belt, Boufal should be full of confidence and ready to finally prove his worth.
