Tottenham Hotspur failed to land Juventus ace Paulo Dybala this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino rejected the chance to swap Christian Eriksen for Paulo Dybala – and now regrets his decision.

Spurs were looking for a star playmaker towards the end of the transfer window, with the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Philippe Coutinho linked with the club.

Tottenham did eventually land Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis, but only after days of rumours about a move for Juventus star Dybala.

It's now claimed that Spurs boss Pochettino did have the chance to swap contract rebel Eriksen for Dybala, but rejected that chance – and now has regrets.

Pochettino allegedly believed that he'd be able to keep Eriksen at Spurs with a new contract and didn't want to give him up, but has since realised that there's no chance of that happening.

Juventus now want Eriksen for free at the end of his contract next summer, but Spurs fans would be forgiven for questioning the validity of this one.

The Guardian claimed that Juve weren't even entertaining the idea of swapping Dybala for Eriksen, so claims that the move was actually on the table are questionable off the bat.

Add in that Spurs have known all summer that Eriksen has wanted to go, and it's hard to believe that Pochettino has suddenly been caught cold by learning the Dane doesn't want to extend his contract.

There are multiple reasons why this one seems unlikely, but Spurs fans will at least hope that Eriksen doesn't sign for Juventus next summer on a free transfer, as they may have to see him in the same team as Dybala, and that team won't be Spurs.
