The Gers breezed past East Fife to reach the next round of the Scottish League Cup with a comfortable 3-0 win.
Aribo capped a stunning individual performance with a goal on 84 minutes to make it four in eight games for him since joining Rangers this summer.
The 23-year-old has won praise for his footwork, powerful running and skill since arriving at Ibrox, but former light Blues star Rae claims that the former Charlton star's defensive work 'really surprised' an unnamed East Fife player.
Rae told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard: "I was talking to one of the chaps in the office whose friend plays for East Fife. He says the amount of time that he thought he had comfortable possession but Aribo just managed to get back and cover well.
"He says he was really surprised by that element of his game."
Aribo, earning £20,000 per week in Glasgow [Daily Mail], certainly looks like he might be one of Rangers' best signings of the summer.
He was warned against a move to Ibrox by former manager Lee Bowyer, who claimed that it's a backwards step for him, but already there's evidence of Steven Gerrard taking his game to the next level.
And the idea that he doesn't shirk the defensive side of the game is relatively exciting because it suggests that he's a very well-rounded midfielder.
