Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers will have a surprise player on international duty next month.
The reaction to news about Borna Barisic has certainly divided Rangers fans on Twitter.
The strange thing is, he hasn't been playing for Rangers as of late.
Blues boss Steven Gerrard elected to play midfielder Andy Halliday ahead of him at left-back in the League Cup win over East Fife on Sunday.
The 26-year-old, taken off at half-time in a Europa League qualifier earlier this month, started the win over Kilmarnock on the first day of the season, but hasn't been seen in a Rangers shirt since.
Some fans of the Ibrox side have mocked his call-up, while others have passionately defended him on the basis that he's still one of their players.
Call yourself Rangers fans ! Embarrassing comments by some of you !— Rossi (@rosscoross99) August 19, 2019
How is this possible— deeshi (@Deeshi1872Dek) August 19, 2019
Some of the comments are a joke, get behind your players, well done getting called up Borna ⚪️— Alan Macdonald (@blueroom1872) August 19, 2019
Well done Borna— Gordon Smith (@Gord07) August 19, 2019
But can’t get his game against East Fife lol— Scott (@slrrfc) August 19, 2019
Borna has never really had a chance for us and it doesn’t help when so called ‘fans’ jump on his back ♂️ Give the guy a break he’s obviously decent enough to get an international call up ⚽️— Lennox Richardson (@lennyrfc) August 19, 2019
Comments on this are pathetic. Great to see him in a great squad. Still hoping he can adjust & gain confidence in the Scottish league!— SharpDiv (@sharpdiv7) August 19, 2019
Can you ask them to send someone else back instead.— Boaby The Kidd (@BoabyTheBigot) August 19, 2019
Regardless of how Rangers fans are reacting to it, it is quite a surprising development; not because he's a poor player, but because he hasn't been a regular fixture under Gerrard.
Barisic had a poor first season in Glasgow, but this call-up is testament to the fact that he is a good player nonetheless and time will tell if he can turn things around.
