Steve Bruce has got off to a terrible start at Newcastle United.

Newcastle United winger Matt Ritchie has defended Steve Bruce in the Chronicle.

Newcastle were beaten 3-1 by Norwich City at the weekend, with Bruce getting off to an appalling start.

The new Newcastle boss’s side were thoroughly outplayed by Norwich at Carrow Road.

Bruce has already come in for fierce criticism by the St. James’ Park crowd.

But Ritchie feels that Bruce doesn’t actually deserve to be on the receiving end of so much scrutiny.

The £10 million winger (Daily Mirror) said, when asked if Bruce was to blame for defeat: “Everyone has to be patient.

“We have new players in and there’s been a slight adjustment to the system.

“We’re only two games into the system.

“No, we didn’t play very well so we will look at that, find the reasons, work on it throughout the week and go again next week.”

The rising pressure on Bruce stems from the fact that he wasn’t a particularly popular appointment at St. James’ Park in the first place.

While many new managers are given time, the Newcastle crowd are set to be unforgiving with Bruce.

Newcastle are next in action against Tottenham Hotspur, in what looks another difficult match.
