Celtic fans are desperate for new signings arrive before the end of the month, but Jonathan Afolabi won’t have been a name on many fans’ wish lists.

The Bhoys have crashed out of the Champions League qualifiers to CFR Cluj, meaning the Europa League is now their only route into Europe this season.

Add in a dismal showing against Dunfermline on Saturday, and fans are growing very frustrated with Celtic’s summer, with their transfer window disappointing so far.

Kieran Tierney has gone to Arsenal, and incomings Boli Bolingoli and Christopher Jullien weren’t even picked to face Cluj on Tuesday, whilst Hatem Abd Elhamed and Luca Connell have arrived too.

Celtic need a number of new faces though, as another right back and left back are needed, along with a host of other additions to bolster Neil Lennon’s squad, but the Bhoys are running out of time to get deals done.

The Herald now report that Celtic are on the verge of signing Southampton striker Jonathan Afolabi, and Lennon confirmed a two-year deal to BBC on Saturday.

Celtic haven’t confirmed the move themselves just yet, but fans are taking to Twitter to share their thoughts, with some encouraged by the arrival of the 19-year-old attacker, believing he has potential.

Others are furious though, feeling a project player isn’t what Celtic need right now, believing he’s just another youngster that won’t ever make the first team, even branding a move for him a ‘farce’.
