Watford will be looking to bounce back after a terrible opening day performance and Javi Gracia could hand a debut to a summer signing.

Watford boss Javi Gracia revealed his side’s team news to the club’s official website and Hornets fans could see Danny Welbeck make his debut this weekend against Everton.

Watford succumbed to a 3-0 humiliation against a revitalised Brighton side on the opening day and that has certainly been a reality check for Gracia’s men, of whom a lot is expected after a record-breaking Premier League campaign last time around.

Everton, like Watford, did not get off to the best of starts as they drew 0-0 against Crystal Palace but Marco Silva’s side at Goodison Park will be a tough challenge to this Watford side. However, the Hornets are unbeaten against the Toffees in their last three games and this should give them some confidence ahead of the game on Saturday.

Craig Dawson made his debut for the Hornets against Brighton and Watford fans can expect another new face to do the same this weekend against Everton. Former Manchester United and Arsenal star Danny Welbeck who joined the club on a free transfer could feature on Saturday after being out of action since the end of last year.

Gracia said: “He is training with us all this week, with the rest of the team. He is training well and I think he can help us in the next games because what I see is he’s ready.” Welbeck being ready is a huge boost for Watford especially with Ismaila Sarr not yet ready to make his debut.

The former Rennes man completed his transfer on deadline day but a lengthy spell at AFCON with Senegal means he still needs some time before he is ready to feature.

“He needs time to be ready and after a time resting, he needs time to recover his best condition. I expect he will be ready as quick as possible,” Gracia said.

Welbeck has a brilliant record against Everton in the Premier League having scored and assisted a combined eight goals in 10 appearances against them. Any positive contribution against the Toffees on his debut would be a perfect way to restart his career after a tough spell on the sidelines.
