Elnaaz Norouzi’s transformative performance has been a thrill ride in itself.

We know that Sacred Games has blown up, but it’s safe to say that we all want to know if something else did!

Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap’s acclaimed series is being hailed one of the best Netflix original series of the last few years; it would perhaps be too difficult to disagree.

The streaming service has been spoiling us recently, with the likes of Stranger Things, Mindhunter and Orange Is the New Black returning with exciting new seasons. They’ve gone down a treat, but with earlier news that Sacred Games would be back on Thursday, 15th August 2019, bigger and better than ever, audiences flocked to check it out.

Those who were late to the series binged through season 1 with ease, amazed at just how tightly-wound and executed the adaptation of Vikram Chandra’s 2006 novel of the same name is.

Netflix’s Sacred Games: Elnaaz Norouzi

With so much to admire throughout the show’s two series, it really is a testament to her unwavering ability that Iranian actress Elnaaz Norouzi has stood out to fans.

The 27-year-old actress – according to her Wikipedia page – was born in Tehran, Iran but moved to Hanover, Germany in 2000 alongside her family. At the age of 14, she was already very ambitious, launching a modelling career while still striving to do well academically.

Up until the cusp of her twenties, Elnaaz journeyed far and wide, travelling the world and sharing experiences across both Europe and Asia, before moving to India and beginning a new chapter in her career. Her feature debut was in 2018’s Mann Jao Naa, which focuses its lens on young people and the overarching theme of marriage. Later that year she starred in Khido Khundi, a charming sports-drama inspired by all things hockey.

She played Natasha in the 2019 TV series Abhay, but it’s the role of Zoya Mirza in Sacred Games which remains the crowning achievement of her body of work so far.

Elnaaz Norouzi: From Jamila to Zoya

Fans have been thoroughly immersed in the character’s progression over the course of the two seasons. Back when Zoya was Jamila, Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) proved to be of help. Their relationship is a complex one, with the actress herself elaborating on her experiences with the role to India Today, as reported by the Express

“Jamila is a fighter,” she confesses. “She met Gaitonde when he was vulnerable, when he needed someone. At the same time, she also needed someone. They met at the same time. They help each other… it’s been great how Jamila grows into Zoya.

Both these characters are very different from each other. It was fun to play as them as an actor.” She did a phenomenal job switching up the role in such a compelling fashion, undergoing such a fascinating arc.
