The Blues have snapped up the 19-year-old Spaniard on a six-month contract, starting life at St Andrew's in the Under-23s.
Fernandez came through the ranks at UE Cornella in Spain and spent a trial period with Birmingham last season, while this term he featured in several friendlies for Xavi Calm's side.
He has now committed to the club on a full contract, the club adding that Michael Luyambula, Cameron McGilp and Francis Amartey were brought in on similar short-term deals last season so as to blood them in the Under-23s and assess them.
Fernandez becomes the latest arrival from Cornella - who were coached by Calm last season - with Augustin Medina also having made the switch to St Andrew’s earlier in the summer (Birmingham Mail).
