According to The Scottish Sun, Rangers may miss out on Kilmarnock's Liam Smith as Manchester City have opened talks to sign him.
The Gers identified Smith as a target earlier this year, and have been looking to bring the teenager to Ibrox having been impressed with his potential.
Smith, 16, is a young striker who has one goal in four Scotland Under-16 caps, and he has been touted for a bright future.
Rangers may now miss out though, as it's claimed that Manchester City are in talks about a deal to add him to their youth ranks – and it wouldn't just be the Gers missing out.
Kilmarnock would allegedly be entitled to €200,000 in compensation according to FIFA rules, which is just around £180,000; short change to the Premier League pair.
Rangers will be gutted to miss out if that proves to be the case, especially as they may offer a clearer pathway to first-team football than the English pair.
