The ending for Nightwolf in Mortal Kombat 11 hints at there being a female variant of the character in Mortal Kombat 12.
Nightwolf has just been added to the extensive Mortal Kombat 11 roster, and the DLC fighter is likely to become many people's main thanks to his flashy arsenal of ungodly abilities. However, despite being another excellent addition to the epic instalment, his ending has caused somewhat of an uproar thanks to how it points to the character being female in Mortal Kombat 12.
Mortal Kombat 11 received a lot of flak from certain corners of the internet for its designs of the female characters, and - although some of the criticism was unwarranted - the argument that the tame and realistic outfits made the women appear boring was valid.
And, in another bold move that is pretty much guaranteed to upset fans of the fighting game series, it's possible that some of the male fighters could be gender swapped such as Nightwolf.
Will Nightwolf be female in Mortal Kombat 12?
While Nightwolf is undoubtedly an excellent addition to Mortal Kombat 11's fantastic roster, a number of gamers will be upset that he could possibly be female in the inevitable Mortal Kombat 12.
NetherRealm hasn't given any verbal clues or hints to a controversial genderswap being on the horizon, but it's the character's ending that will have people biting their nails.
Nightwolf's Mortal Kombat 11 conclusion shows the DLC fighter becoming the keeper of time after defeating Kronika. This means he has to relinquish his duty of protecting Earthrealm as Nightwolf, and it's here that a few people are concerned the character will return in Mortal Kombat 12 as a woman.
In what is sure to aggravate the most diehard fans, the character's lore has been slightly altered with Nightwolf now being a title that can be worn by any Matokan who proves their worth.
This doesn't overly suggest that the Nightwolf mantle will be bestowed upon a woman, but the concept image of a female variant of the beloved character certainly does.
Some people will obviously be upset and accuse NetherRealm of pushing an agenda, but the idea of a female Nightwolf is arguably interesting and appealing.
The ending doesn't 100% guarantee that Nightwolf will be a lass as the developers could just scrap the idea, but it is a possible innovation I wouldn't be against provided the gear for the women returns to being stylish instead of depressingly dull for the sake of "realism".
