Liverpool have added yet another European trophy to their cabinet after beating Chelsea on penalties in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday night.

The two sides took time out from the new Premier League season to head to Istanbul for the Super Cup final, and with Liverpool favourites – after all, they did win the Champions League back in June.

Chelsea took the lead though, with Olivier Giroud finishing off Christian Pulisic's pass, before Sadio Mane's equaliser sent the game into extra time.

Mane put Liverpool in front, but a Jorginho penalty sent the game to penalties, with Liverpool celebrating another penalty shoot-out win in Istanbul.

Adrian saved Tammy Abraham's spot kick to give Liverpool the win and the trophy, sparking wild celebrations from Reds stars.

As the celebrations unfolded, two goalkeepers Liverpool fans wouldn't have even expected to be at the club – Adrian and Andrew Lonergan – celebrated, with Adrian taking the plaudits.

The Spaniard only recently joined the Reds after being released by West Ham United, but had to come on for the injured Alisson on Friday, and then start in his place last night.

With a shoot-out save to his name, Liverpool fans have praised Adrian, admitting that they think he's already better than Simon Mignolet, and his display has made them feel better about Alisson's absence.

West Ham fans also reacted after seeing Adrian win a trophy in just his second game for Liverpool, with some feeling bittersweet at the sight of him lifting a trophy in red rather than claret and blue, and others just proud of him.
