Liverpool beat Chelsea on Wednesday to win the UEFA Super Cup.

Just over two months since winning the Champions League, Liverpool have added yet another European trophy to their cabinet.

By winning the Champions League against Spurs in June, Liverpool set up a UEFA Super Cup clash with Europa League winners Chelsea, with the game taking place in Istanbul.

Liverpool were hot favourites for the game, especially after Chelsea were hammered 4-0 by Manchester United on Sunday, but the Blues threatened to spring a surprise.

Olivier Giroud opened the scoring from Christian Pulisic’s pass, only for Sadio Mane to equalise – and then put Liverpool ahead in extra time.

Jorginho’s spot kick sent the game to penalties, and when Adrian saved from Tammy Abraham, Liverpool were able to celebrate another shoot-out win in Istanbul.

Jurgen Klopp stormed the pitch to go and celebrate with goalkeeper Adrian, who was only recently signed on a free transfer to replace Alisson, but has already won one trophy.

Liverpool fans could certainly get used to this kind of success in Europe, and Reds owner John W Henry took to Twitter to celebrate too.

Henry kept it simple, posting just a one-word reaction to the victory, branding the success ‘beautiful’ – and few Reds fans would disagree with that verdict.
