Liverpool are now European champions and European Super Cup champions.
Gini Wijnaldum has stated on Instagram that he hopes Jordan Henderson 'get to lift a lot more' trophies after Liverpool beat Chelsea on penalties in a thrilling European Super Cup encounter on Wednesday night.
Goalkeeper Adrian was the hero of the night as he saved Tammy Abraham's decisive spot-kick in Istanbul, as Liverpool added to their Champions League triumph from June.
Wijnaldum came off the substitutes bench during the game, with Henderson playing the entire game, including extra-time, as he along with Virgil van Dijk helped his team over the line in what was a tough encounter.
Nonetheless, after the match Wijnaldum issued these messages from his personal Instagram account, as Ryan Babel and Henderson sent their responses:
Wijnaldum, who joined Liverpool from Newcastle in 2016 for a fee of £25 million [BBC Sport], could potentially find himself returning to the starting XI on Saturday.
With the games coming thick and fast for Jurgen Klopp's men, rotation may be needed as Liverpool hope to add to their 4-1 opening day win against Norwich City.
For that game against Chelsea, Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi were on the bench for the Reds, with the latter coming on in extra-time.
Origi impressed on the opening day of the season and it remains to be seen whether he will keep his place in the starting XI.
