Liverpool’s backup goalkeeper Adrian was the hero of the night as Jurgen Klopp’s side beat Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup.

Rangers goalkeeper Andy Firth has stated on Instagram that’s ‘the life of a goalkeeper’ following Adrian’s heroics for Liverpool during their penalty shoot-out win against Chelsea in the Super Cup.

Firth, who came through the ranks at Liverpool as a youngster, praisingly joked ‘the unbearable red men’ as he was seemingly making reference to opposition fans not being able to stand Liverpool supporters constantly talking about their Champions League triumph.

Well, Jurgen Klopp has another trophy to add to his cabinet, with the Super Cup now also in place as his team have started the season in a pretty strong fashion.

Here was Firth reacting to Liverpool’s Super Cup win on his personal Instagram account:

As a goalkeeper himself, Firth would have no doubt enjoyed Adrian’s spot-kick heroics, especially the decisive save off Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham.

Only a couple of weeks ago, Adrian was a free agent, but Simon Mignolet’s departure opened the door for him to be signed by the Reds as Alisson Becker’s backup.

But Alisson suffered an injury during Liverpool’s 4-1 win against Norwich City, which opened yet another door for Adrian to start and prove his worth to his new supporters.

Adrian will be hoping to take that form and confidence into Liverpool’s Premier League clash at Southampton on Saturday afternoon.
