Charlie Austin opened the scoring for the Baggies in the ninth minute of Tuesday night's match at The Hawthorns but Tom Bradshaw levelled for the Lions before the half-hour mark.
Slaven Bilic's side did not have a good day at the office as Millwall found the winner through Aiden O'Brien, who scrambled the ball home from a corner in the 55th minute.
Burke has struggled to hold down a first-team place at West Brom since his move from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2017, and spent the second half of last season on loan at Celtic.
Against Millwall, the 22-year-old Tony Pulis signing put in a largely ineffective display and quite a few Baggies fans took to social media to discuss him in the aftermath of the defeat:
Burke just isn't a footballer. Highlights tonight probably diangana and furlong. Both decent. Pereira you can tell has something about him. Krovinovic will be our best all season. #wba— Morany (@Bromayit) 13 August 2019
3 managers and 0 progress with Burke just only so many chances you can give someone but we will win Saturday and I’m confident on this #wba— Jon Simonian (@_Simonian) 13 August 2019
I like to support every player that wears the stripes and not try to give them stick. But oli burke is making it so hard. One of the worst performances ive seen from a player in a long time #WBA— Ben Hadlington Ⓥ (@BenHadlington) 13 August 2019
Pulis should be up in front of a government enquiry for spending £15m on Burke— Joe Mangan (@MangeWBA) 13 August 2019
That’s why we didn’t manage to sell Oli Burke in the summer. No one in their right mind would want him #WBA— Danny Wright (@dannyw_92) 13 August 2019
For confidence more than anything we have to win at Luton. We’ve seen the two squads, our weaknesses are becoming noticeable, the new lads can only get better. Burke isn’t good enough, simple. Slavs got work to do but I’ve got confidence in his ability to do so. #WBA— Rob Paddock (@RobPaddockWBA) 13 August 2019
This performance from Oliver Burke is one of the most inept I've ever witnessed. Quite extraordinary. #wba— Steve (@pennwba) 13 August 2019
You know that point when an opinion changes from being with a minority to a majority...— WBA Rainbow Stand ® (@TheRainbowStand) 13 August 2019
Think Oli Burke has just crossed that
He stunk the place out tonight Jade, his attitude is an absolute disgrace. He can’t knock the door anymore, hopefully someone on the continent will take him off our hands before the end of the month and we cut our losses— Andy Warner (@warnerchief) 13 August 2019
That was the worst performance I've ever seen from an Albion player and I was there for Kim Do-Heon's debut— Baggies Burger (@BaggiesBurger) 13 August 2019
According to the Daily Mail, Burke is considering a move abroad and, with the European transfer window open until the start of next month and Tuesday night's display coming under so much criticism, the ex-Nottingham Forest ace could well opt for a fresh start elsewhere.
