Sheyi Ojo has told Rangers' official YouTube channel that Brandon Barker's arrival at Ibrox has not had an impact on his mindset, as he knows that he needs to make an impact every time he gets the chance to impress anyway if he wants to stay in the team.
Barker became Rangers' latest addition of the window last week when he joined from Manchester City, with BBC Sport reporting that the 22-year-old has signed a three-year contract with the Scottish Premiership side.
Barker's arrival adds to the competition that Rangers already have in the wide areas. It had already appeared to be a fairly congested area of the squad, and the Englishman's move seemingly adds to the pressure on those who currently occupy a spot in Gerrard's side.
With Ojo starting five times already this season, he will be one of the players that Barker will be setting his sights on once he gets up and running in the coming days and weeks.
But the Liverpool loanee suggested that he is planning to make it as difficult as possible for Barker or any of his teammates to take his spot from him.
"It's clear. The manager's already told us that every time we get an opportunity, we have to take it," he told the club's YouTube channel. "With the likes of Brandon Barker coming in, it's not really done anything for me. I know every game I've got to be at it, 100 percent, and if I get the opportunity, I have to show what I can do."
Barker looks to be the kind of player who could follow a similar path to the one Ryan Kent travelled down last season. Kent arrived off the back of some underwhelming loan spells, but his time at Rangers saw his frightening ability and potential come to the fore, and his career now looks to be back on track.
Barker also appears to have the potential to be a game-changer, and he will be hoping that Steven Gerrard can be the manager to help him realise that potential. Barker on one wing with Ojo on the other could certainly prove a lethal combination for the Gers.
