Reading are into the next round of the Carabao Cup after beating Wycombe Wanderers on penalties last night, having drawn 1-1.
Alex Samuel put Wycombe in front, threatening to pile more misery on Jose Gomes after a tricky start to the season, but new signing George Puscas drew Reading level.
Reading couldn't find the winner so had to go all the way to penalties, and young striker Danny Loader sent the Royals through after Rafael had saved from Nick Freeman and Fred Onyedinma.
Reading will now hope to take that momentum into their league form, and they've at least been boosted by midfielder Ovie Ejaria's return.
The Liverpool talent has returned for a second loan spell with Reading, this time staying for the full season having spent the second half of last term at the Madejski Stadium.
Ejaria made his second debut for Reading on Tuesday night, and earned rave reviews, with fans calling him 'a class above' after a fine performance.
The 21-year-old was branded 'superb' and 'the best player on the pitch', and whilst his long-term Liverpool future is unclear, the Reds will be encouraged after seeing Ejaria shine.
Classic early season cup tie last night, glorified pre season match with a mix n match of players chucked together. Patience still needed, signs of potential are there. Puscas will score loads once he's up to speed and sharp, Rafael is a huge upgrade in goal, Ejaria a class above— Vince_RFC (@Vince_RFC) August 14, 2019
Ejaria showed why it was important we got him back last night - gives a different dimension. Liked Puscas. McIntyre has a strong future hopefully with us— Ian Anderson (@ianandy62) August 14, 2019
#readingfc Boye had a bright 1st half, shame he got snapped just before HT.— Persandwichman (@persandwichman) August 13, 2019
Puscas very impressive, on another night with his eye in, he’d have got a hat trick
Morrison played well, great addition to the squad.
Great to see Ejaria back in blue & white top performance
Last night shows that we need to give the new players time to gel... Puscas looked good at times but rusty, Boye looked sharp but tired so needs match fitness, Ejaria was class IMO, Adam looked bright but sprayed few passes, Pele looked composed but need bits more time 1/2— BerkshireBoys (@BerkshireBoys_) August 14, 2019
New keeper looked solid, Ejaria best player on the pitch by a mile, Puscas given little service but will bang goals for fun, Boye looked bright and McIntyre was excellent, Morrison solid and Richards decent. Pele off the pace, Adam too slow, Moore poor by his standards #readingfc— Lee Wyeth (@leewyeth) August 13, 2019
Those first 45 mins from Ejaria were superb. Has he got some kind of glue on his boot ? Such fast and will only get better with match time.— ElmParkRoyals (@ElmParkRoyals) August 13, 2019
Can’t wait to see him on Sunday
Ejaria is pure class— ElmParkRoyals (@ElmParkRoyals) August 13, 2019
Swift and Ejaria a class above the rest. Puscas great hold up play. Adam = fan favourite. Great for Danny to score winning pen. Rafael #readingfc— Jacob (@HawleyJaco) August 13, 2019
