Offering Japhet Tanganga new contract is right decision by Tottenham Hotspur

Japhet Tanganga's current Tottenham Hotspur deal is set to expire at the end of the season, but Mauricio Pochettino now reportedly wants to keep him.

If Tottenham Hotspur do tie down Japhet Tanganga to a new deal then it could be a decision which is worth millions in the future.

Tanganga has under a year left on his contract at Tottenham, but Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly been convinced that the defender has a future at White Hart Lane after his stunning pre-season displays.

Tutto Mercato Web now reports that Tottenham are set to offer the 20-year-old a new contract.

Pochettino wants to tie down Tanganga for the long-term, and that could be a smart decision for Spurs.


The youngster looked perfectly at home in Tottenham’s first-team over pre-season, where he dealt with some of Europe’s elite strikers.

Judging any player by their displays in friendlies is difficult, but Tanganga looked so at home in Tottenham’s first-team that he has certainly earned a new deal.

If Tanganga does continue to progress, he could well broke into Tottenham’s senior squad sooner rather than later, and if he manages that he will instantly be worth millions.

With the market inflated, Tanganga ticks the box for what so many clubs are looking for.

The Spurs academy graduate is a young, ball-playing, English centre-back, and if he does start pushing towards Pochettino’s starting line-up then his value will sky rocket.

Tanganga still faces a battle to win a spot in Tottenham’s squad, as there is so many brilliant and more experienced players ahead of him.

But Pochettino’s decision to keep Tanganga around looks like the best move for Tottenham, and the reward could be huge if the youngster goes on to fulfil his potential.
